Friday 30th September 8pm – Talk by Cathy Brown

“A Taste of the Southern Ocean” Penguins, whales, dolphins, seals, albatross – the wildlife is as amazing as the weather is daunting. Visiting the Falklands, South Georgia, the Antarctic Peninsula and the southern tip of South America was the trip of a lifetime. Following in the footsteps of Shackleton, weathering three Force 11 storms, marvelling at glaciers and icebergs, we discovered why the world’s most remote cruising ground is such a magnet – and why not to go there by yacht!

Please order meals before 7 pm (latest)

No need to book – just come along.  The talk starts at 8pm.

Weekend of Fun with HPYC!

There was a great of turnout on Friday at the Members’ reception. New members had a chance to get to know some of the Club Officers and members, find out about all the Club’s activities and enjoy some canapes and wine.

On Saturday over 50 members headed over to the Harwich Lifeboat Station. Some members arrived by boat, others by ferry. The club have supported the Harwich RNLI for many years. We were welcomed by Mike Doogan, Visitors’ Liaison Officer, Capt. Rod Shaw, Lifeboat Operations Manager and Neal Sandquest, Harwich Lifeboat Coxswain. We were shown around the station and given an insight into the amazing work that our Lifeboat crews do. Mike Perkins, Vice-Commodore, accompanied by Judy Oliver and Gill Hervey-Murray, presented a cheque as a result of our fundraising activities during the last year, and in return were delighted to receive a framed photograph. Finishing up with a fish and chip lunch, it was a great visit. Thanks goes to Paul Hunter for all the organisation.
